Seresto®  combines two active ingredients, imidacloprid (10%) and flumethrin (4.5%). The innovative polymer matrix enables Seresto® to slowly and continuously release the active ingredients in low concentrations for up to eight months. 

The Seresto^® collar for cats should be worn continuously for the eight-month protection period and replaced after eight months for optimal continuous flea and tick protection. Clients should check the collar periodically and adjust the fit if necessary, especially with growing kittens.

Shipping case: One display unit contains 6 tins, containing each a pouched Seresto®. The EPA does not require an expiration date on the packaging for Seresto® for Cats. The product should be kept in its original packaging and stored as directed on the label. 

Yes. Seresto^® can be used alongside identification collars without damaging them. 

Seresto® for Cats kills existing fleas within 24 hours after application. After 24 hours of application, re-infesting fleas are killed within two hours — before they can lay eggs.  

This collar is designed with a release mechanism. In the unlikely event of a cat being trapped, the cat’s own strength is sufficient to widen the collar to allow for quick release.

This hasn’t been tested and it might have an impact on the level of protection your pet receives. Therefore, we strongly discourage you from doing this. For the best flea and tick protection, Seresto® should be used continuously and ideally all year round. However, we do not see any problem if you temporarily need to remove the collar (e.g. during grooming).

Seresto® does not need to be removed when a cat gets wet or is bathed. The active ingredients are contained in the collar matrix and will not be released into water. They spread through the lipid layer of the cat's skin and hair and even if this lipid layer is partially washed off by bathing, Seresto® will quickly replenish the active ingredients and the pet will be protected again.

However, prolonged, intense exposure to water or extensive shampooing should be avoided as the duration of activity may be reduced.

The white powder is caused by stearic acid, a release agent used in the production process to make it easier to release the collar from its mold.

Stearic acid is completely safe and also graded for use in certain foods. The white powder normally disappears within a few days after application of the collar to your animal but if you prefer, you can simply wipe it off with a cloth.

Ticks may still grab onto your cat’s coat when she brushes past them, even if she’s wearing a Seresto® collar. The active ingredients work on contact, which means the ticks need to grab onto the fur to get exposed to the active ingredient. However, once they have climbed on, the ticks will fall off and die. You may therefore sometimes also see ticks tangled in your cat’s fur.

As the vast majority of active ingredients are bound in the collar matrix and not on the surface, they are not released or absorbed when the collar gets chewed. If any, mild gastrointestinal signs may be seen. Nevertheless, you should avoid chewing, and if your cat manages to get her own collar into her mouth it’s likely that it is applied too loosely. Ideally two fingers fit between the collar and your cat’s neck.

Yes, Seresto® can be used on kittens aged 10 weeks and older.

If your cat isn’t used to wearing a collar, there is a slim chance that she might develop mild reactions such as scratching, redness and hair loss. These symptoms usually disappear within one to two weeks, without removing the collar, as your cat gets used to wearing it. In some cases, temporary collar removal may be recommended until the symptoms have disappeared. In rare cases in cats, application site reactions such as dermatitis, inflammation, eczema or lesions may occur and in these instances, collar removal is recommended. Please consult your vet if the symptoms persist or become more severe.
